Jesus Was a Refugee: Remember That

It’s confusing to observe people driving unmarked vehicles snatching human beings from the streets, workplaces and homes of the country that’s addicted to spreading democracy and freedom around the globe.

Religiously speaking:

The Gospel of Matthew illustrated that Jesus Christ’s mother Mary, and stepfather Joseph were refugees. They fled Bethlehem to Egypt to escape King Herod’s persecution of male infants.

The victims include:

Asylum seekers, who are individuals who have fled their home countries and are seeking protection in another country, may be detained by ICE while their asylum claims are being processed.

Economic growth, challenges and contributions:

Baby boomers are making significant contributions to the growth of the economy. But they are aging, retiring, and hugging their money. This paradigm shift is challenging population, labor, housing, and healthcare sectors. But Immigrants are ready to step in to confront these challenges head on.

The Congressional Budget Office (.gov) reported that:

Immigrants contribute significantly to the U.S. economy through their work, spending power, and investments in housing. The Congressional Budget Office (.gov) estimates that the recent immigration surge will increase the GDP by $9 trillion between 2024-2034.

We desperately need Immigrants’ labor for the survival of our great economy. For a century immigrant labor has been putting vegetables in our bellies. I understand fear and anger, but imagine the United States fifty years from today without the benefit of immigrant labor.

This is a complex issue. What we need the most is Congress to act by passing sensible Immigration Reform that will provide pathways for asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants to gain legal status and eventually become citizens of this great country.

Just like Jesus and his family, these immigrants are already traumatized and suffering. We ask for your empathy and compassion.
